Gillies Bay Internet Society

We are a non-profit society established to bring wireless internet access to Gillies Bay and the surrounding area.

Using funds from Network BC , the Island Coastal Economic Trust , the Powell River Regional District, and with some initial help from the Lasqueti Internet Access Society we have been able to create and operate a wireless internet network to serve the community of Gillies Bay on the west coast of Texada Island, British Columbia.

For more information about the history of the project and progress reports, including a 2012 report to Network BC, visit the GBIS History page. We try to describe some of the obstacles we face in providing a wireless service to an area with hills and forests that can block the radio signal between transmitters and customers.
